Day in the life of your role.
Most days include a fair amount of researching and preparing for workshops that are based around the Design Thinking and Agile tool kits. The workshops are generally an hour or two long but always require a lot of preparation to ensure that the participants have the information they need to make decisions and progress towards an actionable outcome.
What is your favourite part of your job?
Definitely bringing the customer voice into each project. Our customers are the experts in what they want. Its so important that we involve them in our product and service design in order to make sure it meets their needs. I love engineering the opportunities to bring the customer into the process and sharing their incredible insights to help guide our business decisions towards better solutions.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to do what you do?
Cultivate your curiosity and creativity, practice thinking outside the box and dont be afraid to ask all the questions. A growth and open mindset are essential, most of the time the problems we are working on are ambiguous. We often do not have clear directions and we have to be self directed and that means learning by doing. Because of this, we have to adapt and change course due to new information but that is how we learn and learning is the most critical part of the role.
